Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) A group from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) recently met with Professor Manish R. Joshi, the Secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC), advocating for a streamlined admission process and the introduction of a single application fee for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), as indicated by a student representative.
The delegation, spearheaded by National General Secretary Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, presented a memorandum that outlined multiple academic requests.
Among these requests were the organization of students’ union elections in institutions of higher education and the establishment of a modern legal framework for their governance, consistent scheduling of the academic calendar for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research studies, alongside the effective execution of the National Education Policy (NEP).
Following the resolutions from ABVP’s 71st National Conference in Dehradun, the student body informed the UGC Secretary about various student-centric issues and called for prompt action on those matters.
The ABVP has persistently aimed to foster a constructive academic atmosphere while protecting the interests of students, which has led to its recognition as the largest student organization globally.
Through the memorandum delivered on Monday, the ABVP also demanded regular audits and monitoring to address continuous fee increases by institutions under the guise of the NEP.
Major demands included the formulation of new legislation to restore and regulate students’ union elections across all institutions, the creation of National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) units in every institution, and the enhancement of Internal Complaints Committees to ensure the safety of women on campuses.
Virendra Singh Solanki, National General Secretary of ABVP, stated, “Our delegation has presented a memorandum to the UGC Secretary, underscoring several crucial academic challenges facing the education sector.”
“This memorandum aligns with the resolutions from ABVP’s 71st National Conference. The UGC Secretary responded positively to our concerns and assured that necessary steps will be taken to address these issues,” Solanki added.
