Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 23 (NationPress) The leader of AIUDF and former Dhubri MP, Badruddin Ajmal, expressed strong political sentiments on Monday, showcasing his determination as he gears up for the forthcoming elections while making pointed criticisms towards both the BJP and Congress regarding their leadership and alliances in Assam.
During an interaction with the press, Ajmal conveyed his unwavering political stance despite facing ongoing challenges.
“I am a tiger and I will stay a tiger. Even in death, I will be a tiger,” he proclaimed, demonstrating his confidence in his political foundation and support from the grassroots.
Ajmal directed his remarks at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, urging him not to view himself as unbeatable.
“Himanta Biswa Sarma has yet to reach the status of a Badshah,” he commented, emphasizing that no political figure can dominate Assam's political landscape without opposition. He asserted that the populace would respond appropriately in due time.
When discussing the possibility of unity among opposition parties, Ajmal expressed optimism about continued collaboration with the Congress until the very last moment.
“We hold hope until the end. It is the Congress that speaks of separation; we have not initiated any divorce,” he indicated, implying that AIUDF remains open to potential alliances.
Using a popular saying to reinforce his argument, Ajmal stated, “Miya biwi razi, to kya karega kazi?”, suggesting that mutual agreement among parties should prevail over external influences.
Reflecting on the 2021 Assembly elections, Ajmal claimed that conflicts among opposition factions severely hindered their performance in Upper Assam.
“In 2021, Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi undermined the Congress in Upper Assam, and a similar situation is likely to arise again,” he alleged, asserting that fragmented opposition politics continues to benefit the BJP.
Additionally, the AIUDF chief revealed his electoral intentions, stating his determination to run from Binnakandi and his belief in securing victory.
“I will contest the election from Binnakandi, and I am confident of winning,” Ajmal affirmed.
He further noted that AIUDF is a significant player in Assam’s minority-populated areas and is fully equipped to confront the upcoming electoral challenges, irrespective of the alliance outcomes.
