Jaipur, Oct 6 (NationPress) The by-election for the Anta Assembly seat in Rajasthan is set for November 11, with results expected to be declared on November 14, according to an official announcement made on Monday.
Candidates are allowed to submit their nominations until October 21. The scrutiny process will occur on October 23, and withdrawals can be made until October 27.
This seat became vacant when Kanwarlal Meena was stripped of his MLA status following a conviction related to a two-decade-old incident. His position was terminated in May after being found guilty of threatening an SDM with a pistol.
During the 2023 Assembly elections, Kanwarlal Meena, a supporter of former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje, won against Pramod Jain Bhaya, a former Congress minister.
Bhaya is recognized as a significant Congress figure in Hadoti.
Officials suggest that the Congress party might select Pramod Jain Bhaya again for this election.
The BJP has a range of contenders, including former MLAs.
In total, the Anta Assembly constituency comprises 226,227 voters, with 115,982 men, 110,241 women, and 4 voters from other categories.
Since the establishment of the current BJP government, the party has secured victories in 5 out of 7 contested by-elections, while Congress and Hanuman Beniwal's party, the RLP, faced substantial defeats.
Prior to this by-election, the Congress had control over 4 of the 7 seats, now reduced to just one.
Last year, by-elections were conducted in Khinvsar, Deoli-Uniyara, Jhunjhunu, Dausa, Chaurasi, Ramgarh, and Salumbar.
The BJP emerged victorious in Khinvsar, Deoli-Uniyara, Jhunjhunu, Ramgarh, and Salumbar.
In the previous by-elections, Congress managed to win only the Dausa seat, while the BSP retained Chaurasi. Hanuman Beniwal's wife lost in Khinvsar while contesting on an RLP ticket, with BJP's Revantram Danga taking the win.
Jagmohan Meena, brother of Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena, lost the Dausa seat. The outcomes of Khinvsar and Dausa continue to spark political discussions.
While the Anta by-election results may not directly impact the government's status, they will certainly influence public perception.
Political analysts predict that a BJP victory in Anta will be portrayed as a public validation of the government’s performance.
Locals suggest that a loss for the BJP would provide the opposition an excellent chance to mount an offensive.
