New Delhi, Nov 27 (NationPress) The head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Malolan Rangarajan, remarked that the insights provided by newly appointed assistant coach Anya Shrubsole have been crucial for their strategy in the 2026 WPL mega auction. He emphasized that the former England fast bowler has performed exceptionally well in her position thus far.
RCB highlighted the English influence by signing fast bowler Lauren Bell and left-arm spinner Linsey Smith. "Anya is someone we've wanted on board for a considerable time, and we are thrilled to have her as part of our strategic team. For all the Indian fans, I must remind everyone of the unfortunate events of 2017 that she contributed to us," he stated.
“On a lighter note, we've collaborated with Anya over the past few weeks to strategize our retentions and auction plans. It's a coincidence that we have Anya, Lauren Bell, and Linsey Smith, so any unnecessary connections there should be avoided. It was a clear contest between MI and us for the pacer, and we are glad about our acquisition," he added.
“Anya offers a vast amount of experience, having successfully played for England and led franchises worldwide. Her level of composure and insights are invaluable. It's difficult to articulate how much she has contributed, but she has been fantastic so far, and I am confident she will excel even more during the tournament," Malolan responded to an IANS query during the press conference.
Regarding missing out on leg-spinner Asha Sobhana, who was acquired by UP Warriorz for INR 1.1 crore, Malolan expressed, “First, discussing Asha, she was a vital player in RCB's victory in 2024. We missed her last season due to injury. Personally, I am delighted for her; she deserves this financial reward, and I know her well, so I'm genuinely happy for her success.”
“As for our strategy and what we have accomplished so far, we've checked off most of our goals, focusing on enhancing our bowling lineup and improving our retained players. We are satisfied with our current position, although there is still some work to be done.”
The Mumbai Indians have been bringing back their key players Amelia Kerr, Shabnim Ismail, and Sanskriti Gupta. Head coach Lisa Keightley stated that retaining this trio was pivotal to their strategy for defending their title.
“We are genuinely excited to have our core group returning, as they are world-class players capable of winning matches, which is essential. Sometimes, the importance of consistency within the group can be underestimated,” she commented.
“I've observed that franchises maintaining consistency can offer a competitive edge, allowing them to commence the competition with fewer uncertainties, which could benefit us greatly.”
“We were pretty much at the limit with Amelia, as many would know, but we believe she is worth the investment, so we are thrilled to have her back,” she concluded.
