Guwahati, Sep 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, officially launched the centenary celebrations honoring the legendary cultural figure, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, at the newly designated Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha in Jalukbari, Guwahati. This event paid heartfelt tributes to the Bard of the Brahmaputra.
Joining the celebration was Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, as Sarma praised Hazarika, describing him as “a symbol of uniqueness, protest, deep passion and loyalty” whose melodies have evolved beyond mere entertainment to encapsulate the aspirations and struggles of everyday individuals.
The Chief Minister announced that the year-long festivities will encompass activities across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend a special program in Guwahati on September 13, where he will unveil a commemorative coin in honor of Hazarika and introduce a book detailing his life and contributions, which will be distributed to 20 lakh families in Assam as well as libraries nationwide.
Additionally, Sarma revealed plans for a museum dedicated to Hazarika's aspirations and creations, expected to be completed within a year at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.
