Assam's Chief Minister Unveils Three New Welfare Schemes
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Feb 26 (NationPress) On Thursday, Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, introduced three pivotal welfare schemes aimed at enhancing financial support for students and empowering the youth of the state, especially those pursuing higher education.
At the launch event, the Chief Minister emphasized the government's dedication to ensuring that no eligible student is compelled to halt their studies due to financial hardships.
The first initiative, the Nijut Babu Scheme, is designed for students enrolling in higher education institutions throughout Assam.
Under this initiative, students accepted into degree programs at colleges will receive a monthly aid of Rs 1,000 during their initial year, while postgraduate students will benefit from Rs 2,000 per month. This scheme is applicable to families earning less than Rs 4 lakh annually.
The government reports that a significant number of students in the state have reaped the benefits of this initiative, which aims to alleviate the financial pressures associated with higher education.
Following the success of the Nijut Moina Scheme, which supports female students at the school level, the government has broadened its welfare efforts to include students transitioning from graduation.
In response to longstanding demands, the Chief Minister also launched the Mukhyamantri Jibon Prerona Scheme, a new initiative aimed at assisting graduates, particularly young women, after they complete their degree courses.
This scheme will provide financial support to graduates during the crucial transitional phase where many prepare for competitive exams such as civil services, banking, and other recruitment tests or pursue professional courses.
The government acknowledged that during this transition, a lack of stable income can pose significant challenges, especially for women, often leading many to abandon their career dreams.
The Mukhyamantri Jibon Prerona Scheme aims to fill this gap by offering economic assistance, allowing students to concentrate on their preparations and skill development without financial stress.
The Chief Minister remarked that these three schemes collectively reflect the government's comprehensive strategy towards education, women's empowerment, and the development of youth, asserting that consistent investment in students is vital for cultivating a skilled and self-sufficient Assam.
