Chandauli, Sep 5 (NationPress) The Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has declared its intention to bring attention to the ongoing challenges faced by farmers during the Rabi crop season, aiming to engage Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
On September 9, the BKS plans to inform the CM about the hurdles encountered by farmers regarding Rabi crops via Block Development Officers (BDOs) across 75 districts and 826 development blocks, accompanied by a memorandum. The organization will emphasize the necessity for the timely provision of fertilizers, seeds, irrigation, and electricity as the sowing period approaches in October.
Ravi Shekhar, the State General Secretary of BKS, conveyed to IANS, “Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have been dealing with significant challenges during the Rabi season in recent years, including delays in fertilizers and seeds, alongside insufficient irrigation and electricity supply. If these issues recur this year, we will have no choice but to protest.”
Rabi crops, also referred to as winter crops, are typically sown from October to November and harvested between April and May. These crops include crucial staples such as wheat, barley, peas, mustard, and gram, which are essential for the nation’s food and nutritional security and require sufficient water and timely inputs for growth.
Primarily cultivated in northern and northwestern states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, Rabi farming heavily relies on irrigation due to low rainfall during the growing season.
As sowing is set to commence next month, the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh is urging the state government to take prompt action to avert disruptions and protect the livelihoods of farmers, who play a vital role in India's agricultural economy.
The BKS, ideologically affiliated with the RSS, was established by Dattopant Thengadi, a pracharak of the RSS, in 1978.
