Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Quetta, Dec 24 (NationPress) A segment of the railway track sustained damage following the explosion of a bomb that was placed on the track near Dera Murad Jamali in Pakistan's Balochistan, as reported by local media on Wednesday.
Authorities revealed that the explosive device, an improvised explosive device (IED), was positioned on the main railway line close to the Notal area in the Nasirabad district. The blast occurred just before the Jaffar Express, which was traveling from Peshawar to Quetta, could arrive at the location on Tuesday, according to Dawn, a prominent daily in Pakistan.
As a result of the explosion, a section of the railway track was compromised, leading to the suspension of train operations.
Railway authorities detained the Jaffar Express at Dera Murad Jamali and halted train services connecting Quetta with other regions until repairs are completed.
Following the incident, a substantial presence of police, along with a bomb disposal unit and security personnel, arrived at the location to initiate a search for the perpetrators.
In a previous incident in November, the Jaffar Express faced an attack in the Bolan Pass area of Balochistan. Reports indicated that armed assailants targeted the train while it was en route from Quetta to Peshawar, as noted by Dawn.
Witnesses recounted that gunmen opened fire on the train near Aab-i-Gum, prompting a response from security forces aboard the train.
Fortunately, the attackers managed to flee after a brief exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. Reports confirmed that there were no injuries resulting from the shooting.
On October 7, a separate blast injured at least seven individuals as it targeted the Jaffar Express bound for Quetta in the Shikarpur district of Sindh, officials stated.
Shikarpur Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Abro reported that the blast occurred at 8:15 AM (local time) on October 7.
According to Abro, the explosion transpired approximately one kilometer from the Sultan Kot railway station, resulting in seven injuries.
Earlier in the year, the Jaffar Express was hijacked by members of the Baloch Liberation Army's (BLA) Majeed Brigade, leading to the hostage of over 400 passengers.
The train was forced to a stop on March 11 after being derailed in the Dhabar section of the Bolan Pass in Balochistan.
Security officials confirmed that the train was attacked near Tunnel No. 8 in the Bolan Pass.
The standoff concluded after more than 24 hours, with the BLA claiming to have executed at least 20 of the captured security personnel after verifying their identities.
