Chennai, April 8 (NationPress) In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained two officials from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu related to a bribery scandal, as announced by officials on Wednesday.
The individuals arrested have been named as Yellamilli Rinkesh, a GST Superintendent, and Ramkesh Meena, an Inspector in the same department. Their arrests were executed following a covert operation by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch based in Chennai.
The investigation commenced on April 7 after a complaint claimed that the Superintendent solicited a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a taxpayer to expedite the processing of a GST registration. After negotiations, it was reported that the accused accepted a reduced sum of Rs 15,000.
