New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) India’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is set to make his return to Northamptonshire for the 2025 County Championship cricket season. Having played for the club in 2024, his contract for this season will commence in June and last until the conclusion of the season after his commitments with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 are fulfilled.

Chahal will be eligible to participate in both the County Championship and One-Day Cup matches, beginning with Northamptonshire's match on June 22 against Middlesex. Last season, he marked his debut by claiming five wickets against Kent in the One Day Cup and achieved his career-best bowling figures of 9-99 against Derbyshire in the County Championship.

His impressive performances against Derbyshire and Leicestershire led to back-to-back victories for Northamptonshire, concluding the season with 19 wickets at an average of 21 over just four first-class matches.

“I had a fantastic experience last season, so I am thrilled to return. There are wonderful individuals in the dressing room, and I eagerly anticipate being a part of that once more. We played exceptional cricket towards the end of the season, and I hope we can continue that momentum to secure more victories,” Chahal stated.

Although Chahal has not played for India since 2023, he was part of the squad that clinched the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. The new head coach of Northamptonshire, Darren Lehmann, expressed his enthusiasm about Chahal rejoining the club.

“I am genuinely excited about the return of one of the finest leg spinners globally to Northamptonshire. His wealth of experience is invaluable, and he is a true gentleman who has a passion for the game. Having him available from mid-June until the season's end will be a tremendous asset for us,” Lehmann remarked.

Northamptonshire CEO Ray Payne echoed Lehmann’s sentiments, stating, “Yuzvendra was outstanding for us last year and played a pivotal role in our consecutive victories in September. His presence last season was a delight; he is a world-class player and a fantastic individual, making us all thrilled to welcome him back for an extended period this season.”
