New Delhi, April 8 (NationPress) Former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla opines that the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) were at a disadvantage right from the beginning of their chase against Rajasthan Royals (RCB) during their third match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, as they suffered early dismissals that heightened the pressure.

Mumbai Indians endured a rocky start, losing three crucial wickets within the first three overs while attempting to chase down 151 runs in a rain-shortened match of 11 overs. Chawla remarked that these early setbacks made the run chase exceedingly tough.

“Rajasthan Royals appeared well-prepared from the outset, particularly during the Powerplay. Their batting set a solid foundation. On the bowling front, Jofra Archer delivered an exceptional performance, and Nandre Burger secured pivotal wickets. When you’re pursuing 150 runs in 11 overs and lose three wickets for around 20 runs, it becomes exceedingly challenging. Mumbai Indians were already trailing in the initial overs,” Chawla stated in an interview with Jio Hotstar.

He also commended Yashasvi Jaiswal for his remarkable unbeaten score of 77 runs, which provided Rajasthan with a robust start.

“At times, a player feels particularly confident against a specific team. Jaiswal seemed at ease from the very beginning and played with assurance. His 77 runs in an 11-over match illustrate the impact he had,” he added.

Chawla further praised 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his audacious batting against a formidable Mumbai bowling lineup.

“Performing well against Mumbai Indians is always noteworthy due to their elite bowlers like Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. When a young talent showcases such performance, it captures everyone’s attention,” he remarked.

In summary, RR triumphed over MI by 27 runs in a rain-affected match, riding on an explosive 80-run opening partnership between Yashasvi and Sooryavanshi, marking their third consecutive victory in the IPL 2026 season.
