Amaravati, June 5 (NationPress) Law enforcement in Guntur has initiated legal action against Ambati Rambabu, a prominent leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and former minister, following an alleged confrontation with police officers after being blocked from reaching the District Collectorate to submit a memorandum.
The incident occurred during a protest designated as 'Betrayal Day', which the YSRCP was commemorating throughout Andhra Pradesh.
A legal case has been filed under Section 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which addresses assault or criminal force against a public servant during the execution of their duties, against Rambabu and others at the Pattabhipuram Police Station.
As per police reports, the former minister and his supporters departed from Siddharth Nagar on motorcycles, intending to rally towards the District Collectorate. Upon being halted by police, they attempted to take an alternative route but were stopped again at the Kankaragunta Overbridge.
Pattabhipuram Circle Inspector Ganga Venkateshwarlu informed Rambabu that the rally lacked official permission, prompting a heated dispute between them. The police officer advised Rambabu to control his language.
In a fit of anger, Rambabu responded defiantly, stating he would challenge anyone attempting to prevent their passage, escalating the confrontation.
Inspector Venkateshwarlu firmly told Rambabu that he would not be intimidated by threats.
Ultimately, Rambabu dismounted his motorcycle and proceeded on foot, while police later permitted one vehicle to move through.
Subsequently, following a complaint from a police officer, the case against Rambabu and his associates was officially registered.
On that day, the YSRCP organized rallies and other protest activities to mark 'Betrayal Day', commemorating the one-year anniversary of the TDP-led coalition government.
The opposition party accused the ruling coalition of failing to deliver on promises made to the electorate, thereby deceiving them.
In this context, YSRCP leaders also submitted representations to District Collectors and various officials across all districts.
