Azamgarh, June 20 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during the inauguration of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway in Salarpur, Azamgarh on Friday, launched a vehement critique of the Samajwadi Party (SP), alleging ties with Mumbai’s infamous underworld organization, D Company, while masquerading as advocates of development.
Without directly naming individuals, CM Yogi remarked, “This is the very Azamgarh that once elected him as MP, yet he failed to establish even a university or an expressway. In 2016, tenders were issued for a 110-meter-wide expressway, but those involved exploited the project and now feign integrity.”
Blaming previous governments for compromising safety, Yogi stated, “In the past, these individuals fostered D Company in the name of development. Our administration has secured tickets to hell for such individuals. Anyone posing a danger to public safety will have their ticket booked in advance.”
He confidently proclaimed that the BJP's dual-engine government aims to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
“Eight years ago, people were afraid to even mention Azamgarh. Today, it stands as a symbol of mainstream development,” he asserted, noting that law enforcement and safety for citizens, especially women and business owners, have significantly improved in Azamgarh.
Emphasizing the state’s advancements, CM Yogi highlighted that Uttar Pradesh is achieving a unique blend of ‘Virasat’ (heritage) and ‘Vikas’ (development).
“The magnificent Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the redevelopment of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Maa Vindhyavasini Dham, Chitrakoot Dham, and the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj all exemplify this progress.”
He further stressed the rapid development in infrastructure, stating, “Before 2017, UP had merely two airports. Today, that number has risen to 16, with four upgraded to international standards. We are creating opportunities for our youth to find employment within the state.”
The 91.35-km-long Gorakhpur Link Expressway links Jaitpur on NH-27 in Gorakhpur to the Purvanchal Expressway in Salarpur, Azamgarh. It is a fully access-controlled four-lane expressway that can be expanded to six lanes, traversing Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Built at a total cost of Rs 7,283.28 crore (including land acquisition), the expressway was constructed in two phases.
The first phase ran from Jaitpur (Gorakhpur) to Phulwaria (Ambedkar Nagar) — 48.317 km.
The second phase extended from Phulwaria to Salarpur (Azamgarh) — 43.035 km.
The expressway is anticipated to greatly enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
