New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has initiated a special campaign to alleviate traffic congestion at 233 critical points, enhance lighting in dimly lit areas, and clean the Ring Road along with other roads managed by PWD.
During a meeting with her Cabinet members and officials from civic agencies and DDA, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgency of accelerating the desilting of drains to prevent waterlogging in the city.
CM Gupta also mandated the establishment of an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) that will serve as a central hub for overseeing and managing various city functions, including traffic, water supply, and sanitation.
Following the meeting, she stated: “Our objective is not merely to implement temporary fixes but to achieve long-lasting and significant enhancements to Delhi's infrastructure. Each department has received explicit directives to tackle these issues with a mission-oriented mindset and a focus on results.”
“We aim to free the residents of Delhi from challenges associated with waterlogging, traffic, and security. Our government is dedicated to transforming Delhi into a safe, accessible, and clean capital where citizens can enjoy superior services at every level,” she added.
Emphasizing measures to combat waterlogging, the Chief Minister noted: "Currently, 194 waterlogging zones have been pinpointed. These areas fall under various departments such as PWD, NHAI, DMRC, DDA, MCD, NDMC, and DCB. Among these, short-term initiatives have already been completed in 129 zones, with directives issued to finalize work in the remaining areas expeditiously."
She mentioned that the ICCC will consolidate data from multiple sources to deliver real-time situational awareness and assist city authorities in decision-making. It will also be pivotal in emergency responses by providing immediate information on incidents and coordinating the efforts of various departments.
Moreover, the CM directed stringent enforcement under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 2007 to tackle defacement issues. This act prohibits the defacement of public property through writing, marking, or using other materials, except for stating the owner's or occupier's name and address.
