Delhi's Continuous Water Supply: A Blessing or Election Strategy? Residents Voice Diverse Opinions

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The launch of the much-anticipated water supply initiative in Rajinder Nagar by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has set a new benchmark in the city’s infrastructure advancements. For the first time, 500 households in this locality will benefit from uninterrupted access to clean drinking water through taps.

Yet, while some locals have embraced this change wholeheartedly, others have expressed skepticism, suggesting it may be a political maneuver ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

IANS visited Rajinder Nagar to gather opinions from the residents regarding this initiative.

Neha, a resident of Pandav Nagar, shared her positive experience with the newly implemented water supply system.

"It took approximately 15-20 days for drinking water to reach our home. Previously, we depended on water tankers, but now we've had drinking water fittings installed, and we're finally receiving clean water. The installation was free of cost. So far, there have been no health issues. Although it took some time due to Delhi's vastness, it's evident that the AAP government has fulfilled some of its promises," she explained.

Conversely, Asha, another resident from Pandav Nagar, expressed a more doubtful perspective.

"Clean water only started flowing at our place a week ago. Before that, we had to cope with dirty, muddy water. Water now arrives in the morning between 6:30 and 8, and again in the evening. When it didn’t come earlier, we had to rely on bottled water. AAP didn’t consider this earlier, but now with elections approaching, they're implementing this. I suspect Kejriwal's government is rolling out these schemes, such as the Delhi Sanjeevani Yojana and Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, solely to attract votes in 2024. We’ll see how long this lasts," she stated, questioning the timing of the initiative.

Kamlesh, another local resident, expressed satisfaction with the new water supply project and other government initiatives.

"I'm thrilled because we now have fresh water 24 hours a day. We no longer need to wait for water tankers. Kejriwal has provided us with free buses, free electricity, and now fresh water. I hope he wins the elections again," she commented, showing support for the AAP government’s efforts.

Devki, another resident from Rajinder Nagar, shared similar views, praising Kejriwal's leadership. "Now we have access to fresh water. Kejriwal is doing a commendable job, and I hope he emerges victorious in the upcoming elections as well," she expressed.

Vikas, yet another resident, noted how the new water supply has enhanced their daily lives. "Earlier, we had to contend with dirty water. But now, we receive fresh water directly without using a motor. It’s conserving our electricity, which is a significant advantage," he remarked.

Durgesh Pathak, the MLA from Rajinder Nagar, expressed his appreciation to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for the water project.

"I feel fortunate that Arvind Kejriwal initiated this project in our constituency. I am grateful to the entire team for their dedication. No one could have predicted that Delhi would achieve a 24-hour water supply, but we’ve made it a reality. Currently, 500 homes are receiving water, and soon it will extend to around 70,000 homes. This is just the start, and it’s something that has been delivered, not merely promised," the MLA stated.

While the initiation of the water supply project in Rajinder Nagar signifies a notable accomplishment for the city, it remains to be seen whether this action is perceived as a genuine effort to enhance infrastructure or merely a political strategy ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.
