Jalandhar, Dec 16 (NationPress) The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) from the Jalandhar Zonal Office has lodged a formal Prosecution Complaint with the Special Court for PMLA at Jalandhar against Malbros International, Gautam Malhotra, and others. This action is part of a money laundering probe linked to an environmental offense.

The complaint was submitted on Monday under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, as outlined in an official statement.

The ED's investigation was initiated based on a criminal complaint from the Punjab Pollution Control Board against Malbros International and others, citing violations of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. The company allegedly injected untreated wastewater into deep aquifers via reverse boring.

Investigation findings indicated that Malbros International's facility, situated at Village Mansoorwal, Tehsil Zira, District Ferozepur, was actively generating and holding Proceeds of Crime (POC) through intentional and willful contamination of groundwater.

Through its daily operations, the unit was involved in the covert and ongoing release of untreated industrial waste into deep aquifers via reverse boring, as well as discharging wastewater onto adjacent lands, drains, and a neighboring sugar mill, according to the ED.

Malbros International has been operating its factory through illicit practices that consistently pollute groundwater and surrounding water bodies, resulting in the generation of POC amounting to Rs. 80 Crore during the investigation period.

Previously, searches were executed at six locations on July 16, 2024, under the provisions of the PMLA, 2002.

In total, the ED has seized Rs 78.15 lakh in cash and attached immovable assets valued at Rs 79.93 crore, which includes land, buildings, and machinery belonging to Malbros International, via a Provisional Attachment Order dated December 13, 2025.

The ongoing operations at the Malbros facility have led to persistent illegal releases of untreated effluents into land and groundwater, causing extensive, irreversible ecological harm characterized by water pollution, health risks, crop failures, livestock fatalities, and severe health consequences for residents near the site, as per the statement.

Point of View
