Kolkata, April 12 (NationPress) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called upon IPS officer Gaurav Lal and businessman Joy Kamdar as part of its ongoing investigation and raids associated with the residence of Sona Pappu, whose real name is Biswajit Poddar. He is known for operating multiple syndicates in the areas of Kasba and Ballygunge in Kolkata, as stated by a senior official from the central probe agency.
Gaurav Lal, who previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, is currently assigned to Howrah Police.
The ED conducted a search at Sona Pappu's residence on April 1, during which they also searched Joy Kamdar's property, uncovering significant amounts of cash.
The raids on April 1 involved a total of eight locations. The ED's statement revealed that approximately Rs 1 crore 47 lakh was confiscated during these searches.
Additionally, they recovered gold and silver jewelry valued at Rs 67 lakh 64 thousand. A Fortuner car utilized by Sona Pappu was also seized during the operation.
Moreover, a revolver marked 'Made in USA' was confiscated, with sources indicating that these weapons were handed over to the police to ensure a 'free, transparent, and fearless' Assembly election in West Bengal.
The investigation into Sona Pappu was initiated based on several FIRs lodged by both the West Bengal and Kolkata police. He is facing multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959. The police are also pursuing him concerning the Kankulia clash incident.
Allegations of money laundering have also been levied against him, and he is currently evading arrest. Despite receiving a summons from the ED, Sona Pappu has not appeared for questioning.
Interestingly, he recently went 'live' on social media, alleging that his wife and elderly father were subjected to 'torture' during the ED raids.
Sona Pappu is also linked to the Rabindra Sarovar clash incident, although he has yet to be arrested in this matter.
According to ED sources, multiple FIRs have been filed against him, detailing various allegations, including extortion and threats. The ED's summons was based on these complaints.
