New Delhi, Nov 13 (NationPress) Esha Singh and Manu Bhaker are strongly vying for a position in the final of the women’s 25m Sport Pistol category at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship Rifle/Pistol 2025, which is currently taking place at the Olympic Shooting Range in Cairo, Egypt. After the Precision Stage concluded on Thursday, Esha is in fourth place while Manu holds the seventh spot among 85 competitors.
Olympian Esha recorded a score of 294-11x (98, 97, 99), whereas double Olympic medallist Manu achieved a score of 292-11x (98, 96, 98), keeping them both within striking distance of the leaders. The third Indian participant, Rahi Sarnobat, is in 56th place with a score of 284-7x (95, 96, 93).
Leading the qualification is Turkey’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, who shot an impressive 299-12x (100, 100, 99), followed by Paris Olympic silver medallist Camille Jedrzejewski from France (98, 99, 98) and Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan (99, 99, 97), both at 295-13x, with the French shooter in second place based on countback.
Iran’s Golnoush Sebghatollahi and Mina Ghorbani are fifth and sixth, respectively, both at 292-13x, while Lin Jou-Yu of Chinese Taipei rounds out the top eight with 292-9x (97, 97, 98).
The top eight shooters after the qualification rounds will advance to the medal stage. The Rapid stage is scheduled for tomorrow, followed by the final on Friday (Nov 14, 2025) at 4:30 PM IST.
As of now, India ranks second in the medal count, trailing China, with three gold, five silver, and three bronze medals, while China leads with eight golds and a total of 15 medals.
Previously, both Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh faced disappointment in the women’s 10m air pistol final at the ISSF World Championships on Monday, missing out on individual medals despite promising starts.
Manu Bhaker, who previously secured bronze medals in the individual and mixed team events at the Paris Olympics, seemed to be in control of the final before a costly 8.8 on her 14th shot caused her to drop from first to seventh place, finishing with a score of 139.5.
Esha Singh, a multiple Asian Games medallist who recently clinched gold at the World Cup in Ningbo, China, also stumbled during the crucial phase. The 20-year-old recorded a disappointing 8.4 on her 14th attempt after a stellar 10.7, finishing sixth in the final.
