New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is prepared to make his comeback to competitive cricket after an extended period due to injury, as he is set to play for Baroda in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches. This information was confirmed by a source from the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) to IANS.
Pandya faced an injury during India’s Asia Cup Super Fours match against Sri Lanka and has been sidelined since then. He missed both the ODI and T20I series against Australia and was not available for the ongoing 50-over series against South Africa.
Fortunately, the all-rounder has received clearance for Return to Play (RTP) and has left the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
“After a significant hiatus from the game, Hardik is going to play for Baroda in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches,” stated a BCA official to IANS.
Baroda is scheduled to compete against Punjab on Tuesday, followed by matches against Gujarat and Haryana on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Hardik will join the team, which is captained by his brother Krunal Pandya, aiming to deliver strong performances to secure a spot in the selection for the South Africa T20Is.
Baroda had a rough start in the SMAT, losing their initial matches against Bengal by six wickets and against Puducherry by 17 runs, but they recently managed to secure a victory against Himachal Pradesh.
Pragyan Ojha, a member of the national selection committee, has been assigned to monitor Pandya’s performance during his time on the field for Baroda. The selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, will decide on his inclusion in the T20I squad based on his performance.
The five-match T20I series against the Proteas is set to commence on December 9, with the BCCI expected to announce the squads within the week.
