New Delhi, March 7 (NationPress) Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has shared the inspiration behind his spirited celebration following the dismissal of Jacob Bethell during the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 held at the renowned Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

Hardik's swift throw to the striker's end in the final over of England's innings effectively concluded Bethell's remarkable knock of 102 runs. His animated celebration following Bethell's dismissal was a clear display of emotion, energizing the entire team. Hardik explained that the presence of his son Agastya and girlfriend Mahieka Sharma in the stands motivated him to express his feelings after that pivotal wicket.

“There was one batter I needed to get out, and that was Bethell, given his performance. I knew I had to remain composed and deliver the throw accurately. Ideally, it could have been closer to the stumps, but at the end of the day, we accomplished our task,” Hardik mentioned in a video shared by the BCCI on X.

He further added, “My reaction stemmed from my son being there; I wanted him and Mahieka to savor this moment and understand the depth of my emotions.”

Prior to this spectacular fielding display, Hardik showcased his bowling skills, conceding only 9 runs in the 18th over and claiming the wicket of Sam Curran—who was attempting to clear the boundary—before getting caught at mid-wicket.

Hardik disclosed that he entered a Zen state before the over and managed to stay calm and focused, even with his heart racing due to the high-pressure situation.

“In life, there are two pathways. I could have let my heartbeat escalate and failed to execute, but I chose to embrace my Zen state. It's remarkable that instead of my heartbeat quickening, I remained composed. I take great pride in that,” Hardik expressed.

Thanks to his outstanding contributions, Hardik was recognized as the impact player of the match in the dressing room.

He is expected to play a vital role when India goes head-to-head with New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
