How is Haryana Crafting an Extensive SOP for Flight Operations?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Feb 9 (NationPress) In a bid to enhance aviation safety and operational readiness, the Haryana Civil Aviation Department has established a high-level technical committee tasked with formulating a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for secure and safe flight operations at state aerodromes, in strict adherence to DGCA guidelines.
The committee, chaired by the Accountable Manager of the Civil Aviation Department, includes seasoned professionals in aviation and planning. It will also assess the staffing needs within the department to ensure complete regulatory compliance.
This initiative was highlighted during a virtual review meeting led by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, where the maintenance and enhancement of runways and aerodromes throughout the state were thoroughly evaluated.
Stressing that the upkeep of aerodromes is a continuous endeavor, the Chief Secretary pointed out that the department has already initiated various improvement actions, such as periodic recarpeting of runways and routine inspections. He mentioned that these efforts will now be bolstered through a structured SOP framework.
During the session, the Chief Secretary provided clear and detailed instructions to the Public Works Department (B and R), the Horticulture Branch, and the Deputy Commissioners to guarantee systematic, coordinated, and timely maintenance of aerodromes statewide, in alignment with DGCA safety and operational standards. These instructions are applicable to all operational aerodromes in the state, including Bhiwani, Narnaul, Pinjore, and Karnal, where enhancement and maintenance projects are currently under consideration.
The PWD has been tasked with preparing and submitting preliminary cost estimates for all runway-related and associated infrastructure projects, including recarpeting, widening, runway shoulder construction, runway markings, boundary walls, guard rooms, perimeter roads, and other safety-related facilities, strictly adhering to DGCA requirements.
The department has also been directed to ensure the prompt execution of all approved projects and to conduct monthly aerodrome inspections, with reports to be shared with the Civil Aviation Department and relevant Deputy Commissioners.
