Mandya (Karnataka), March 4 (NationPress) The President of the Karnataka BJP and MLA, B.Y. Vijayendra, announced on Tuesday his intention to urge Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to ensure that the forthcoming state budget is focused on farmers.
Addressing the media after participating in a paddy transplanting event at the farm of Sukhendra Shivabasappa in Kottatti village, Mandya district, Vijayendra expressed a prayer to Goddess Chamundeshwari for guidance to help the government alleviate the challenges faced by farmers.
He noted that this paddy transplanting initiative was organized under the supervision of the district leaders and the party's district president.
Vijayendra criticized the state government, asserting that no pro-farmer measures have been implemented since it assumed power.
In response to inquiries, he highlighted that the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has significantly increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for numerous agricultural products and rolled out the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
He questioned the reasons behind the cessation of this scheme by the CM Siddaramaiah-led administration.
Vijayendra elaborated that during B.S. Yediyurappa's term as Chief Minister, farmers were able to install a transformer for their fields at a nominal fee of just Rs 25,000.
However, he claimed that under the current Siddaramaiah government, this cost has escalated to Rs 2-3 lakh.
He accused the government of deceiving the public with promises while concurrently imposing financial burdens.
Labeling it an anti-poor and stagnant government, Vijayendra stated that the BJP would unveil the government's true nature to the people of Karnataka in the forthcoming Assembly session.
Moreover, he criticized the government for favoring Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the UPA alliance by indiscriminately releasing Cauvery water, which he argued harms farmers in the Cauvery basin.
Vijayendra emphasized that the state is already facing severe heat and rising temperatures. He urged the government to deliver a farmer-oriented budget, ensure adequate fodder storage for livestock, and prioritize access to clean drinking water.
