Bengaluru, May 2 (NationPress) The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board has revealed the outcomes of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination-1 (Class 10) on Friday, showcasing that girl students have once more surpassed their male counterparts.
During a press conference to disclose the results, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa stated that the state achieved a remarkable 62.34 percent pass rate this academic year, reflecting an 8 percent rise compared to last year. He emphasized that, as in prior years, girls have excelled beyond boys in these examinations.
The minister pointed out that 74 percent of girls who participated in the exams successfully passed, while 58.07 percent of boys cleared the board exams. Overall, 5,24,984 students passed, comprising 2,26,637 boys and 2,96,438 girls.
This year, 22 students achieved a perfect score of 625 out of 625 marks, a significant increase from last year when only two students accomplished this feat. Notably, two students from government schools also achieved full marks this year, as highlighted by the minister.
Mangaluru district emerged at the top with a 91.12 percent pass rate, while Kalaburagi district, identified as one of the most underprivileged districts in north Karnataka and the home district of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, recorded the lowest at 42.43 percent.
Udupi, another coastal district, secured second place with 89.96 percent, followed by Karwar in third with 83.19 percent.
Bengaluru Rural ranked ninth with 74.02 percent, Bengaluru South placed tenth with 72.3 percent, and Bengaluru North came in at eleventh with 72.27 percent.
Minister Bangarappa also announced that 144 schools across the state recorded zero results, including six government schools, 30 aided, and 108 unaided schools. Government-run institutions achieved a 62.07 percent pass rate, whereas 58.97 percent from aided schools and 75.59 percent from unaided schools passed.
A total of 2,24,900 students from rural areas (67.05 percent) and 2,98,175 students from urban areas (65.47 percent) passed, indicating that rural students have outperformed their urban peers, as noted by the minister.
He further added that last year’s exams faced confusion, prompting the introduction of webcasting to uphold exam integrity. Initially, the state recorded a lower percentage in SSLC last year, which improved after grace marks were awarded to students. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had addressed the issue and provided clear directives for improvement, motivating the department towards achieving better results.
