During the celebration held at Kalma Airport of the 59th Kil Yong Jo Hero Flying Group of the Second Air Wing, Kim emphasized the air force's role in the exercise of nuclear war deterrence and the need to counteract any potential espionage and military provocations from adversaries.
While he did not disclose specific details about the new strategic assets, Kim expressed that expectations for the air force are significantly high, stating it must effectively defend the nation’s sovereign airspace.
North Korea is actively modernizing its conventional military capabilities, with a particular focus on enhancing its air force. This includes recent advancements like the first-ever live-fire air-to-air exercise in May and the introduction of an airborne early warning and control aircraft system in March.

The celebration featured Kim observing a demonstration flight from an observation platform, an art performance, and awarding the Kim Jong Il Order to the air force, which is the pinnacle honor in the country.
