Ishan Kishan played a blistering 81 off 44 balls against Zimbabwe on 26 July at the Harare Sports Club, propelling India to 219/5 before the visitors bowled Zimbabwe out for 129 to register a commanding 90-run victory in the second T20I. The win handed India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Kishan's Knock and the Team-First Call

The wicketkeeper-batter struck nine fours and two sixes in an innings that fell just 19 runs short of what would have been his second T20I century. Despite having the opportunity to pace himself toward the milestone, Kishan chose to keep his foot on the accelerator.

'To be very honest, I did not have that in mind to, you know, go ahead and get 100. I was just trying to smack every ball. I had an option of just, you know, being a little slow about it and scoring my 100. But, you know, it's always about team, keeping your team first,' Kishan said in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Kishan-Tilak Partnership That Sealed It

Vice-captain Tilak Varma complemented Kishan's aggression with an unbeaten 60 off 29 deliveries, and the pair added 94 runs for the fourth wicket to put the game well beyond Zimbabwe's reach. Kishan credited Varma's intent for sustaining the momentum.

'It was very important when he came in, you know, he did not take much time. He started playing his shots, so that gave me also very much confidence. I just felt, you know, we are again building a partnership,' Kishan said.

Kishan also noted that the surface was more demanding than the scoreboard implied. 'We were just playing good shots. We were communicating in a very good manner in the middle because the wicket was not that easy, to be very honest. It was just keeping up and down a bit,' he added, giving credit to Varma for 'understanding what the team goal is.'

Bowling Unit Completes the Job

Abhishek Sharma was the standout with the ball, claiming 3 for 17 as India's attack bundled Zimbabwe out for 129, sealing the series with one match still remaining. The 90-run margin underlined India's dominance across both departments.

Kishan reserved warm words for the Indian supporters who travelled to Harare for the series. 'It's just a lovely thing. It's hard to get into words when you come to Zimbabwe. They come here, they support us, they watch all the games, and it's just incredible,' he said, adding that the crowd's presence motivated the team to deliver.

India will look to complete a clean sweep when the two sides meet in the third and final T20I.
