Moscow, Oct 3 (NationPress) The actions of European nations are significantly pushing Kyiv to prolong the conflict, asserted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. "From our viewpoint, the actions of European nations are pivotal; they are exerting every effort to motivate the Kyiv administration to persist in warfare, thereby obstructing any possibilities for negotiation," Peskov articulated on Thursday, stressing that Europe's involvement has greatly heightened the war tensions with Russia.
He indicated that if Europe had not emboldened Kyiv, its approach would likely have been different, as reported by Xinhua.
Peskov remarked that Europe is promoting the creation of new barriers, despite history showing the futility of such measures.
"They (the European nations) are attempting to depict Russia as a villain. This is why they are planning to significantly boost their military expenditures," he highlighted.
Peskov noted that Europe is hindering the pursuit of a peaceful resolution in Ukraine.
He mentioned that former US President Donald Trump's attempts to mediate a resolution have encountered obstacles due to "European militarism," yet he acknowledged the importance of such endeavors. "Washington retains the political will to strive for bringing the situation in Ukraine into a political and diplomatic framework, and Russia acknowledges this fact," he stated.
Peskov emphasized that Russia is committed to safeguarding the interests of future generations while continuing its special military operations and remaining open to negotiations.
In August, Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin convened in Alaska, achieving progress but not finalizing any agreement regarding the Ukraine situation.
Peskov expressed on Sunday that Putin is amenable to meeting Trump in Moscow, though the decision lies with the US.
