Raipur, Nov 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday delivered a sharp critique aimed at the Congress party, accusing its leaders of pretending to uphold the Constitution while actually engaging in decades of political manipulation that has left Chhattisgarh lacking in essential services like roads, schools, and hospitals amid the scourge of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).
Speaking at the Chhattisgarh Rajat Mahotsav in Nava Raipur, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the state’s formation, the Prime Minister noted that the citizens have endured over five decades of suffering due to Maoist violence.
He emphasized that “those who governed for years turned their backs on the people while enjoying a comfortable lifestyle,” indirectly referring to the Congress-led UPA governments without naming them.
PM Modi expressed his inability to bear the sight of “countless mothers mourning for their lost children” and pledged in 2014 to eradicate Maoist violence from India.
“A decade ago, more than 125 districts were afflicted by this violence; today, only three show signs of activity,” he proclaimed, stating that “the day is approaching when Chhattisgarh and India will be entirely liberated from Maoist terrorism.”
He highlighted a significant rise in surrenders, mentioning that over 200 Maoists surrendered in Bastar on October 17, with more than 20 surrendering in Kanker recently, along with many others nationwide, including several high-profile insurgents who have now accepted the Constitution.
The Prime Minister pointed out the positive changes in areas once dominated by insurgents. For instance, the village of Chilkapalli in Bijapur has finally received electricity after 70 years, Rekawaya in Abujhmad has its first school since Independence, and Puvarti, a former rebel stronghold, now proudly displays the Tricolor instead of the red flag.
He noted that Bastar, previously known for insurgency, now hosts lively events like the Bastar Pandum and Bastar Olympics, representing a return to peace and stability.
“Consider how far Chhattisgarh has advanced despite Naxalism -- and how much more rapidly it will progress once the problem is completely resolved,” PM Modi stated, underscoring the state’s essential role in contributing to a developed India.
As part of his message against LWE, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects valued at over Rs 14,260 crore, covering roads, industry, healthcare, and energy sectors.
Notable projects include a Rs 3,150 crore four-lane highway to Jharkhand, the establishment of new medical colleges, power substations, and the Nagpur–Jharsuguda gas pipeline.
Addressing the youth, PM Modi encouraged: “This is your moment; no goal is beyond your reach.”
He assured complete government support for Chhattisgarh’s development, concluding with, “Together, we will elevate Chhattisgarh and the nation.”
Present at the event were Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, and Union Ministers Jual Oram, Durga Das Uikey, and Tokan Sahu.
