Churachandpur (Manipur), Sep 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of developmental initiatives in Churachandpur, reaffirming the government's dedication to progress in the Northeast. This visit marks the Prime Minister's first to Manipur since the onset of ethnic unrest in May 2023.
During the two-day tour across Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam, PM Modi engaged with communities affected by recent violence.
The Prime Minister laid the cornerstone for projects exceeding Rs 7,300 crore, including the Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project valued at over Rs 3,600 crore, and five National Highway initiatives amounting to over Rs 2,500 crore. Additional projects also include the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project and the establishment of Working Women's Hostels at various sites.
Welcomed by students presenting portraits, PM Modi addressed the enthusiastic crowd, remarking, "Manipur is a land of valor and perseverance. These hills are a treasured natural gift, representing your relentless effort. I admire the dedication of the people of Manipur, who braved the downpour to be here today."
He further shared, "Due to severe weather, my helicopter couldn't take off, prompting me to travel by road. What I witnessed on the way—youth and elders carrying the Tricolour—is a moment I will cherish forever, and I bow to the spirit of the people here."
The Prime Minister vowed, "My government is devoted to advancing Manipur's development journey."
PM Modi highlighted the region's cultural richness, stating, "The traditions and diversity here reflect India's resilience. The name Manipur, embodying 'Mani', signifies a gem that will elevate the Northeast's allure in the future."
Discussing the newly launched initiatives, he noted, "These projects will enhance the quality of life for the residents, particularly the tribal communities in the hills of Manipur, providing improved health and education facilities. Congratulations to the people of Manipur for this development."
Emphasizing connectivity's significance in this border state, he acknowledged the historical challenges faced, asserting, "Recognizing the issues caused by inadequate roads, my administration has prioritized improving Manipur's connectivity since 2014."
He revealed that Rs 3,700 crore has been allocated for National Highways in Manipur, with ongoing projects worth Rs 8,700 crore advancing swiftly.
