MP Semiconductor Summit 2026: ₹5,800 crore proposals, 10,000 jobs pledged at Indore
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Investment proposals worth approximately ₹5,800 crore were tabled at the Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Summit-2026 in Indore on 23 October 2026, with the commitments projected to generate over 10,000 employment opportunities across the state. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made the announcement while inaugurating the two-day summit at the Brilliant Convention Centre — marking a significant milestone in the state's bid to position itself as India's next semiconductor destination.
What Was Announced at the Summit
Chief Minister Yadav announced the establishment of a Semiconductor Centre of Excellence and a Centre of Excellence for Photonics and Quantum Technologies in the state. He held one-on-one meetings with representatives of more than 12 companies during the event, with discussions spanning chip design, advanced packaging, testing, artificial intelligence, electronics, and manufacturing.
The summit drew over 1,000 delegates, including delegations from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Sweden, reflecting what organisers described as growing global interest in Madhya Pradesh's semiconductor potential. The programme included eight panel discussions, five roundtables, and six keynote addresses, alongside stakeholder consultations on the Madhya Pradesh Semiconductor Policy-2026 and the MP Semicon Startup Challenge.
The Broader Policy Context
Yadav underlined that the Madhya Pradesh government has formulated over 25 policies in the past two and a half years aimed at widening investment and industrial avenues. He cited the earlier Global Investors Summit, at which proposals worth approximately ₹34 lakh crore were received — of which, he said, more than 30 per cent have already been implemented on the ground.
The Chief Minister also pointed to the strategic imperative of domestic semiconductor self-reliance, recalling the global chip shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic as a cautionary episode. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is advancing rapidly toward semiconductor self-sufficiency — a national ambition that has already drawn large investments to Gujarat and is now being extended to central India.
State's Industrial Expansion Beyond Semiconductors
Yadav highlighted progress in adjacent sectors, including telecom manufacturing in Gwalior, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and defence production. The state's power generation capacity has reportedly grown from around 5,000 MW to 32,000 MW, which he cited as a key enabler for energy-intensive semiconductor fabrication.
On workers' welfare, Yadav cited the settlement of outstanding dues of over 7,000 workers of Hukumchand Mill in Indore as evidence of the government's commitment to labour welfare alongside industrial growth.
What Comes Next
The Chief Minister invited industry leaders to participate in the upcoming Global Investors Summit, suggesting the semiconductor push will feed into a larger investment mobilisation effort. With Centres of Excellence now announced and a formal semiconductor policy under consultation, the ground is being set for Madhya Pradesh to compete with Gujarat and Karnataka for high-value chip-sector projects. How quickly the ₹5,800 crore in proposals converts into signed agreements and grounded projects will be the true test of the summit's impact.
