Chandigarh, Nov 27 (NationPress) In a significant move responding to the demands of the protesting students at Panjab University, the Chancellor and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan has sanctioned the schedule for the senate elections set for next year.
The elections for different constituencies of the Senate, which serves as the university's primary governing body, are scheduled to occur between September 9 and October 4, 2026.
This decision was finalized on November 9 and communicated to Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig on Thursday. The approved timeline will see the election notification issued in January 2026.

For professors in teaching departments, voting is scheduled for September 14, and results will be declared on September 16. Similarly, elections for associate and assistant professors will also occur on September 14, with results on September 16.
For heads and professors of affiliated arts colleges, the election date is set for September 20, with results on September 22, while election results for university faculties will be announced on October 4.
Recently, a notification from the Centre dated October 28 attempted to reduce the number of Senators and eliminate elections for the Graduates constituency, which is responsible for selecting 15 members from alumni across Punjab, Chandigarh, and neighboring states.
