Bhai Dooj, observed on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha in Kartika—the eighth month according to both the Vikram Samvat and Shalivahana Shaka calendars—celebrates the profound bond between siblings. This festival aligns with Diwali and Dipavali Tihar in many regions.
According to legend, on Karthik Shukla Dwitiya, Goddess Yamuna invited her brother Yamaraj for a feast at her home. Since that time, the day is commemorated as Bhai Dooj, symbolizing the liberation of all beings from the torments of Naraka, granting them happiness.
