Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Dr. S. Ramadoss, the founder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), suggested on Thursday that the party may form an alliance with a Dravidian party for the forthcoming elections, indicating that a definitive resolution on this front will be revealed by Saturday.
While addressing the media in Thailapuram, located in the Villupuram district, Ramadoss mentioned that the party is currently engaged in internal discussions.
He disclosed that a meeting had been arranged with district secretaries and state-level officials to deliberate on the electoral strategy and future plans of the party.
"We have convened to gather insights from our district secretaries and state representatives regarding our approach to the elections and the strategy we should implement. Our next actions will be determined based on their feedback," he stated.
Recently, there have been noticeable differences in opinion between Ramadoss and the party president, Anbumani Ramadoss, regarding potential alliances.
While Anbumani has opted to align with the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Ramadoss’s statements have sparked speculation regarding a potential shift in the party's political alignment.
When questioned if a decision regarding the alliance would be declared today, Ramadoss remarked that it was premature for such an announcement.
"We cannot finalize anything today. The timing is not right yet," he explained. However, when pressed about the possibility of PMK partnering with a Dravidian party, he affirmed, "Yes... it will occur."
In a recent communication to party members, Ramadoss used a metaphor indicating that "their vehicle has arrived."
He later clarified, "This refers to an election vehicle. By the 28th, we will ascertain which vehicle we will be utilizing."
His comments arrive at a pivotal moment as political factions in Tamil Nadu ramp up discussions and realignments in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections. Given PMK's considerable support base in northern Tamil Nadu, the party's final decision on alliances is expected to profoundly influence the electoral landscape.
