Following a tip-off, the counter-narcotics unit conducted a raid in the Darayem district on Monday morning, where they found the lab along with 170 kg of processed opium poppy, ready for conversion into heroin. The official confirmed the arrests of five individuals at the scene, as reported by the Xinhua News Agency.
The Afghan government has ramped up its national campaign against narcotics, targeting traffickers, cultivators, and production networks, demonstrating a strong commitment to abolish poppy farming and heroin production.
Just days earlier, on September 8, a provincial police spokesperson announced that Afghan police had dismantled six drug processing labs in Helmand province, seizing over 10,000 kg of materials used in heroin manufacturing.
Counter-narcotics police units executed various operations on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital, destroying the labs and confiscating illegal substances, as stated by Mullah Ezatullah Haqqani, a police spokesperson.
