Jammu, Jan 21 (NationPress) Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have confiscated property valued at Rs 2.22 crore belonging to an individual involved in a job scam, as reported by officials on Tuesday.

According to officials, the seized property belonged to the fraudster who posed as an Army Lieutenant Colonel and misled people with promises of employment.

“The assets, exceeding Rs 2.22 crore, were linked to a scam artist who falsely offered government job placements within the Central government, deceiving individuals by impersonating a Lieutenant Colonel,” officials stated.

The suspect has been identified as Harpreet Singh, who allegedly defrauded individuals seeking positions in the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

A complainant named Arun Sharma from Nagrota filed a report against Harpreet Singh, accusing him of fraud, deception, forgery, and causing financial damages running into crores.

“After investigations and the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) under several sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) at the Nagrota police station, it was revealed that the suspect had received large amounts from victims. A considerable portion of the defrauded money was used to purchase property in Channi Bija within Bahu tehsil, valued at over Rs 2.22 crore,” officials elaborated.

An application for the seizure of unlawfully obtained property was submitted to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Jammu.

On January 18, the court approved the asset seizure, which was carried out under the oversight of the Bahu tehsildar.

“The court has issued a notice to Harpreet Singh providing him with 14 days to clarify why the seized property, presumed to have been purchased with illicit gains, should not be auctioned off for the benefit of the defrauded victims,” officials stated.
