Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Rajasthan government has officially renamed the village of Mohammadpura in the Digod tehsil of Kota district to Mohanpura, following the issuance of a formal notification.
As per the notification, the village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Budhadit police station, will henceforth be recorded as Mohanpura in all governmental documentation, including revenue records, educational institutions, and administrative offices.
This village is home to over six dozen households, all of whom belong to the Hindu community, with no Muslim families residing there.
Previously, the name Mohammadpura was maintained in official records despite the village's demographic makeup.
Interestingly, the Rajasthan government had recently altered the name of Khedarasulpur village in the Kaithun area to Khedarampur, marking a wider trend of renaming villages.
Local residents mentioned that the village was named Mohammadpura during the princely era due to the presence of a police outpost overseen by an officer named Mohammad.
The name was subsequently documented and persisted for many years.
According to Mulchand Gurjar, the administrator of the Madanpura Panchayat, villagers had long advocated for a change in the village's name.
Mohanpura, previously known as Mohammadpura, is part of the Piplada Assembly constituency and is located approximately 46 kilometers from the Digod tehsil headquarters, along the banks of the Chambal River.
Naib Tehsildar Hemraj Nagar remarked that the majority of the village's residents are engaged in agricultural activities. Villagers had previously submitted a memorandum to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting a name change.
Following his intervention, the proposal was approved by the Union Home Ministry, leading to the state's issuance of the notification.
Residents have expressed their gratitude to the Speaker. Officials indicated that the formal implementation of the name change will commence upon receiving instructions from the District Collector, according to Preetam Meena.
The directive regarding the official name change from Mohammadpura to Mohanpura was issued by Hari Singh Meena, Deputy Secretary of the state Revenue Department, formally updating the village’s name in government records.
This change was initiated based on a letter received from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, following the appropriate administrative procedures.
Digod Tehsildar Pritam Kumari Meena confirmed that the name change was prompted by a request from the villagers.
"The villagers, along with village sarpanch Moolchand Gurjar, submitted a written application seeking the name change. The request was supported by a letter on the sarpanch's official letterhead, signed by all villagers," she explained.
