What Does Shekhar Kapur's Journey from C.A to Filmmaking Teach Us About Free Will?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 15 (NationPress) Renowned director Shekhar Kapur recently shared his thoughts on the significance of free will in our lives while reflecting on his unique and intriguing path from a Chartered Accountant student to a celebrated filmmaker.
During his recollections, Shekhar mentioned his initial move to London to chase a career in Chartered Accountancy, a venture that promised a comfortable life. However, fate had different plans for him.
He expressed on social media, "That was a night before I left India for London to become a Chartered Accountant. Life felt predetermined. It was the best qualification available at the time. A fantastic job awaited upon my return, elevated status in the marriage market, membership at the Delhi Gymkhana Club, and a blissful retirement playing bridge among the elite. But it didn't unfold that way. I chose to leave after qualifying and trying out a few jobs in London. Unsure of my next step, I ventured into the unknown. I felt like I had no choice (sic)."
The creator of 'Mr. India' pondered whether Karma played a role in his life, leading him to become a prominent figure in the entertainment sector.
"Or was it me? Is Karma part of this? It's not like I sat idle. I acted and produced films and television in both India and Hollywood. I established theatrical productions in the West End, Broadway, across Europe, and Dubai. I launched India’s first Digital Start-Up, taught at MIT, and served on the boards of Singapore’s Media Development Authority and the Dubai Expo. I accomplished so much because I had no choice; I walked through every open door as a child would.. did I really have no choice?"
Accepting that we control so little of our existence, the 'Masoom' director remarked, "We don’t decide when we are born or when we die, when we love or are betrayed. Reflecting on the past, I wonder, did I truly control my actions, or were they destined? Was I simply rebellious, or did I surrender to the current of life?"
"Did I have a choice, or was it all meant to be? Karma, Destiny... really?" the director questioned.
