Shreya Ghoshal Shares Nostalgic Bus Journeys in Rajasthan for Singing Lessons
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 14 (NationPress) Renowned Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal was deeply touched when a special surprise graced the Indian Idol stage during her birthday week.
This memorable episode, which honored the everlasting melodies of Mohammed Rafi and Mukesh alongside the iconic composer Pyarelal Sharma, became even more emotional as it reunited Shreya with her mentor, who played a crucial role in shaping her extraordinary singing talent.
As the show commenced, host Aditya Narayan revealed a letter that a young Shreya had penned to her first teacher, Mahesh Chandra Sharma.
The letter conveyed, “Namaste, I hope you all are doing well. My formal classical training has not yet started here. My father is still trying to connect with a good teacher. After arriving here, I was supposed to learn with Kalyan ji Uncle for a few days, but I fell ill with jaundice, which prevented me from attending for a month and a half. I practice the lessons you taught me every day. Please accept my humble salutations. Your devoted student, Shreya Ghoshal.”
Reflecting on her cherished memories from her early musical days, Shreya remarked, “I wrote this letter years ago to my Guruji, Mahesh Chandra Sharma.”
Suddenly, a voice from behind startled everyone present on set—it was none other than Shreya’s beloved Guruji himself.
In response to the letter, Mahesh Chandra Sharma shared, “At that time, I couldn’t reply to this letter, but today I want to. People know the student by the name of the Guru, but I take pride in being recognized by Shreya’s name.”
Overwhelmed with emotion, Shreya approached the stage to touch her Guruji's feet.
The episode also revisited Shreya’s early musical journey.
Recalling her childhood training experiences, she said, “It used to be extremely hot in Rajasthan. There was a bus that took two to three hours to reach, and we had to cross through the forest.”
She further added, “There was a turn coming from the bus station, then we took a right, and that’s where your house was. When I saw that house, it felt like a temple to me.”
Enhancing the emotional atmosphere, her Guruji presented her with a diary where he meticulously recorded every lesson and composition he had developed over the years.
While handing her the diary, he expressed, “This book contains all my compositions from the beginning to the last class. It’s the essence of my life.”
Receiving this precious gift, a tearful Shreya bowed to seek her Guruji’s blessings.
Moved by this heartfelt gesture, Mahesh Chandra Sharma then requested her to sing the song ‘Bairi Piya’ from the film Devdas.
Honoring his request, Shreya delivered a beautiful rendition in his presence.
