Siddaramaiah Critiques Modi for Yielding to US on Russian Oil
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 9 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a fierce critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, asserting that India's sovereignty and ability to make independent decisions are being jeopardized due to the Central government’s approach to its relationship with the United States.
In a pointed statement, Siddaramaiah described it as "deeply humiliating" that the United States has openly declared it would "permit" India to purchase Russian oil only for a limited timeframe.
He emphasized that no foreign power should dictate terms that affect India's economic operations.
"This is the alarming reality India faces under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he stated.
The Chief Minister noted that the current circumstances suggest that India's capital is effectively shifting from New Delhi to Washington DC.
He accused US President Donald Trump of behaving "like the acting Prime Minister of India," while Modi has been reduced to a "puppet who merely follows orders."
"A Prime Minister of a sovereign nation cannot permit such a scenario to unfold," Siddaramaiah asserted.
He pointed out a troubling pattern, noting that Trump has consistently taken credit for the Operation Sindoor ceasefire, yet there has been no robust rebuttal from Modi.
Furthermore, he accused the Modi administration of yielding to US pressure regarding oil imports from both Iran and Russia.
"Now the United States has announced that Indian refineries are 'allowed' to acquire Russian oil for merely 30 days," he said, condemning the situation as a clear indication of "continuous and meek surrender."
Siddaramaiah also alleged that the files associated with Jeffrey Epstein have been weaponized and leveraged as pressure tools against India.
This development contradicts the BJP's assertions of establishing India as a "Vishwaguru." The Chief Minister further criticized leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party for seeking to eliminate the terms "secular" and "socialist" from the Constitution, while, in his view, "sovereignty itself seems to have been removed in practice."
Emphasizing the need for India to articulate its own voice on the global stage, Siddaramaiah called for the nation to display moral leadership and independent thought during a time of global conflict.
"India should be guided by its own historical context and values," he concluded.
Accusing Prime Minister Modi of failing to uphold the nation's sovereignty and dignity, Siddaramaiah criticized him for proving himself "incompetent and incapable" of safeguarding India's interests.
He urged that, for the betterment of the country, PM Modi should resign from his position.
