Kohima, Nov 13 (NationPress) Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman touched down in Nagaland on Thursday for a three-day itinerary filled with various programs, which include the inauguration of multiple projects and engaging with local communities.
Nagaland's Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, along with Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang and other ministers, warmly welcomed Sitharaman at the Dimapur airport.
Rio expressed, "I extend a heartfelt welcome to Nirmala Sitharaman, our Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, to our state. We eagerly anticipate her insightful guidance to enhance our developmental initiatives and boost economic growth. May her stay in Nagaland be enjoyable."
Following her arrival, Sitharaman toured the Kiphire District Hospital and met with tribal leaders and Lakhpati Didis as part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) at the Nagaland Armed Police Battalion mess.
During her visit to the hospital, she engaged with Noklentula Sangtam, a dedicated nurse with 34 years of service. Noklentula shared her rich experiences and insights gained over decades of commitment to the community.
In a significant gesture, the State Bank of India (SBI) contributed Rs 64.81 lakh for advanced medical equipment and provided five bike ambulances to the Kiphire District Hospital as part of their CSR initiatives. Sitharaman flagged off these bike ambulances, marking a pivotal advancement in improving medical access in the area.
The Finance Minister also praised the nurses and hospital staff for their unwavering dedication. Accompanying her was Temjen Imna Along, the Minister for Tourism and Higher Education in Nagaland.
According to officials, the Union Minister plans to review the Kiphire aspirational district and converse with various departmental heads.
On Friday, Sitharaman will continue her activities in Kiphire, participating in at least five key events. She will first interact with Anganwadi Workers and helpers, followed by launching the Atmnirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan Programme.
Additionally, she will inaugurate the government Industrial Training Institute at ITI Kiphire and attend a credit outreach program at the Government High School ground in Kiphire. In the afternoon, she will launch SAMARTH and Digital Hardware while engaging with students at the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) in Kohima.
Sitharaman will also witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Telangana State Network (T-SAT) and NIELIT.
On Saturday, November 15, she will inaugurate the AI Centre of Excellence for Skilling at the Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC) in Dimapur and review the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Project at Niathu Resort.
