Guwahati, Jan 4 (NationPress) Six individuals, including four police officers, sustained injuries on Sunday due to a road incident involving an escort vehicle from the convoy of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Assam's Dibrugarh district, as reported by the police.
The accident took place near the Hatiali area, under the jurisdiction of Chabua police station, when one of the escort vehicles collided with a civilian car.
At the time of the mishap, Minister Sonowal was en route to his hometown, Bindhakata, in Chabua.
Dibrugarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, confirmed that all injured persons were quickly transported to a hospital in an ambulance that was part of the convoy.
According to the SSP, "Six individuals were injured in the incident, including four police personnel who were part of the security detail."
Medical staff at Assam Medical College and Hospital, where the injured were taken, reported that all victims were stable and not in danger.
Hospital representatives further indicated that none of the injuries were critical, and the patients were kept under observation as a precaution.
Both Union Minister Sonowal and Rajya Sabha MP Rameswar Teli, who was also in the convoy, emerged unscathed from the incident.
Officials noted that both parliamentarians proceeded with their journey after ensuring the injured received care.
Initial reports suggest that the collision occurred due to the sudden movement of vehicles on the busy road, although an in-depth investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The damaged vehicles were subsequently removed from the road, allowing for the restoration of normal traffic flow.
Police officials confirmed that necessary legal actions have been initiated and further investigations are ongoing.
The incident momentarily disrupted traffic in the vicinity, but normalcy was restored shortly thereafter.
Union Minister Sonowal, who previously served as the Chief Minister of Assam, often travels across the state for various official and personal commitments, accompanied by a security convoy as per protocol.
