Johannesburg, Jan 14 (NationPress) The tourism industry in South Africa has demonstrated a remarkable recovery and growth trajectory, recording a 5.7 percent rise in inbound visitors during the initial ten months of the previous year, as reported by South African Tourism (SAT) on Tuesday.

"From January to October 2024, South Africa welcomed 7.2 million travelers—an impressive 5.7 percent increase compared to the same timeframe last year," stated SAT in their announcement. "Preliminary data from the recent festive season indicates robust sector performance, characterized by high occupancy rates and significant engagement in events nationwide."

"In the realm of business events, South African Tourism has successfully secured 53 bids for international gatherings in the 2024/2025 fiscal year. These events are anticipated to generate 616 million rands (approximately 33 million US dollars) for the economy and draw over 24,000 delegates from 2024 to 2029, further solidifying South Africa's status as a prime destination for global conferences and events," commented the official national tourism marketing body of the South African government.

The 2024-2025 financial period for South Africa, which commenced on April 1, 2024, is set to conclude on March 31, 2025.

"SAT is dedicated to fostering sustainable growth within the sector, and we are steadfast in our goal of presenting our country's unmatched beauty, including our rich cultural and natural heritage, to the global audience while promoting inclusive economic growth and aiding in job creation," the statement elaborated.

On Monday, President Cyril Ramaphosa remarked that South Africa's nature-based tourism sector holds immense potential for driving inclusive and sustainable growth, emphasizing that as the host of the inaugural G20 summit on African soil this year, South Africa will highlight its tourism offerings.
