Kolkata, Sep 30 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, shared videos and images highlighting the scheduled 'Azaan Timings' displayed on the wall of a community Durga Puja Pandal located in the minority-heavy Murshidabad district, criticizing the Mamata government for its alleged appeasement politics.
In the visuals posted on his official social media account, he asserted that the community Durga Puja Pandal involved is the Purba Shibtala Durga Puja Pandal situated in the Maheshpur Panchayat area of Farakka town.
“The appeasement politics of Mamata Banerjee have compelled Hindus to make compromises in Farakka. We are witnessing an unprecedented attack on the Hindu faith and culture under her misgovernance. At the Purba Shibtala Durga Puja Pandal, a shocking display of Azaan timings has been observed inside the Pandal!” Adhikari stated in his post alongside the videos and images.
However, IANS has not verified the authenticity of these visuals.
Earlier this year, there were widespread disturbances in the entire Murshidabad district following violent protests against the new Waqf (Amendment) Act.
According to Adhikari, Hindus, who have become a minority in this region, are now being subjected to oppressive regulations, reminiscent of the controversial “Muhammad Yunus model” from neighboring Bangladesh.
“Such a disgraceful scene would have been unimaginable even during British rule, but under Mamata Banerjee's administration, we are being humiliated in our own land,” he remarked.
He further asserted that the West Bengal government’s appeasement politics have emboldened fundamentalists to the point where restrictions on Hindu festivals are now commonplace.
“We are forced to comply with unreasonable directives, or we face threats of violence against Puja pandals and idol desecration—events that have become distressingly frequent in Mamata Banerjee's Bengal. Year after year, this government protects those who challenge our traditions while compelling Sanatanis to compromise their beliefs,” Adhikari added.
“Let me clarify: if this anti-Hindu TMC government is not defeated in 2026, the disgraceful situation in Farakka will spread like a malignancy across West Bengal. Tomorrow, they may contest idol worship itself! We must remember that once, Hindus were subjected to the Jizya tax in our own homeland. History must not repeat itself,” Adhikari concluded.
