Tariq Anwar Criticizes Kumar Vishwas Over 'Ramayana' Comments Aimed at Shatrughan Sinha's Family

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) Congress Lok Sabha MP Tariq Anwar on Monday rebuked well-known poet Kumar Vishwas for his contentious remarks concerning veteran actor and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shatrughan Sinha, emphasizing that Vishwas should avoid making comments on personal matters.
Vishwas had made a veiled remark regarding Sinha’s daughter’s interfaith marriage, stating, “Teach your children Ramayana. Otherwise, it might happen that while your house is named 'Ramayana,' someone else may take away the Lakshmi of your home.”
Although Vishwas did not explicitly mention Shatrughan Sinha, his statements were widely interpreted as a reference to Sinha’s residence named 'Ramayana' and his daughter Sonakshi Sinha’s marriage to Zaheer Iqbal.
In an interview with IANS, Tariq Anwar conveyed his disapproval, stating, “Vishwas is an educated poet, and as a poet, he should not make personal comments like this. It is inappropriate to interfere in someone’s private life.”
Vishwas further clarified his comments, suggesting that parents should instill the values of the Ramayana in their children, including the names of characters such as Sita’s sisters and Lord Ram’s brothers, cryptically warning about the repercussions of neglecting these teachings. His remarks were interpreted by many as an indirect comment on the Sinha family’s interfaith marriage.
Additionally, Anwar commented on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra, which commenced on Monday.
Anwar questioned the success of Kumar’s two-decade rule, highlighting issues such as high unemployment, migration, poverty, and the absence of substantial progress in Bihar. “If there had been any achievements in these 20 years, or if there had been any investments or industries to provide employment, then the 'Pragati Yatra' would make sense,” Anwar remarked.
The Pragati Yatra is a statewide tour launched by Nitish Kumar to assess progress and engage with citizens. The initial phase began on Monday and will continue until December 28, with the second phase set to start on January 4, covering six districts including Gopalganj, Siwan, Chhapra, Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Samastipur.
