Hyderabad, June 30 (NationPress) The Congress-led government in Telangana is preparing to unveil new legislation aimed at safeguarding and supporting the 4.2 lakh gig workers within the state, as announced by party general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Monday.
Key elements of the proposed legislation include mandatory registration of gig workers by aggregators, the establishment of a tripartite board consisting of workers, aggregators, and government representatives to oversee the welfare of gig workers, and the creation of a welfare fund managed by this board.
Ramesh shared on ‘X’ that this Bill is designed to advance both economic and social justice effectively. “Telangana becomes the third state to legislate on this issue, following Rajasthan and Karnataka. Notably, it is always the Congress governments that have fought for justice and improved working conditions for millions of gig workers. The vision of Shramik Nyay remains a core principle of the Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi,” he remarked.
In April, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that a draft bill had been prepared to ensure the welfare and protection of gig and platform workers.

The Labour Department has drafted the “Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Bill”, which is focused on providing job security, insurance, and various rights to gig workers.
