Mumbai Nov 19 (NationPress) The spouse of renowned South Indian actor Ram Charan and a successful entrepreneur, Upasana Kamineni Konidela, has ignited a significant discussion regarding women choosing to freeze their eggs in order to prioritize their careers.
Facing criticism on social media, Upasana took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to share her views once more: “I’m pleased to have initiated a constructive conversation & appreciate your respectful feedback.”
She continued, “Stay tuned as I express my views on the benefits and pressures of privilege – a topic you all have been discussing.” Upasana encouraged others to view her images, stating, “They contain vital information that will assist you in making informed comments.” She also appealed to employers, saying, “Let’s collaborate to increase female participation in the workforce.”
In a reflective post, she questioned, “Is it wrong for a woman to marry for love instead of succumbing to societal expectations? Is it wrong for her to wait until she finds the right partner? Is it wrong for her to decide when to have children based on her own situation? Is it wrong for a woman to prioritize her career and aspirations over early marriage or motherhood?”
Upasana further asserted, “FACT CHECK: I married for love and companionship at 27—a decision I made independently. At 29, I opted to freeze my eggs for personal and health reasons, a choice I’ve openly discussed to inspire other women to consider their options. (For the record, it wasn’t at Apollo.)”
She welcomed her first child at 36 and is now expecting twins at 39. Upasana stated, “Throughout my journey, I’ve balanced my career and my marriage because a happy, stable environment is crucial for raising a family.” The entrepreneur emphasized, “For me, marriage and career are not opposing forces—they are both vital components of a fulfilling life. Ultimately, I determine my timeline! That’s not privilege; it’s my right!!!”
Notably, at a recent event in Hyderabad, Upasana discussed the concept of “freezing eggs” as a way for women to delay motherhood while concentrating on their careers.
In a video shared on her X account, she noted, “The greatest security for women is to freeze their eggs. This way, you can decide when to marry and when to have children, based on your own terms and financial independence.”
Upasana and Ram tied the knot in 2012, welcoming their daughter in 2023 when she was 34. They are now reportedly anticipating twins.
During this year’s Diwali celebrations, Upasana revealed her pregnancy on social media.
