Kolkata, Nov 27 (NationPress) The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has unveiled a comprehensive list of “tainted” teachers from its 2016 panel, confirming their involvement in securing teaching positions in government-run schools through monetary transactions.
This list was made public on the WBSSC's official website on Thursday afternoon, following directives from both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court.
The courts mandated the WBSSC to disclose this list to prevent any future recruitment opportunities for these “tainted” teachers.
It’s important to note that on April 3 of this year, the Supreme Court upheld a prior decision by a Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court to annul the entire WBSSC panel from 2016.
The apex court recognized the High Court’s position that the complete panel needed cancellation due to the failure of the state education department and the commission to provide two distinct lists separating “untainted” candidates from “tainted” ones, despite persistent requests.
The Supreme Court stipulated that a new recruitment process must be finalized by December 31 of this year.
While the “tainted” teachers are barred from participating in the new recruitment, “untainted” teachers can still take part.
In September, the WBSSC held written examinations separately for the fresh recruitment of secondary and higher secondary teachers to fill vacancies that arose from the apex court's ruling.
However, after the results of the higher secondary examination were released, a petition was lodged at the Calcutta High Court contesting the results. The petitioner alleged that some tainted teachers from the 2016 panel were improperly permitted to take part in the written examination, contravening the apex court's order, and some even qualified for interviews.
Earlier this month, the Calcutta High Court mandated the WBSSC to publish the complete list of tainted teachers from the 2016 recruitment panel. This issue escalated to the Supreme Court, which upheld the High Court's directive.
