New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) More than 30.58 crore unorganised workers have been registered on the e-Shram Portal to avail benefits under various social welfare schemes provided by the government as of January 28 this year, the Parliament was informed on Monday.
The e-Shram Portal has seen the registration of over 1.23 crore workers in 2024, averaging 33,700 enrolments daily, as stated by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Launched on August 26, 2021, by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the e-Shram portal (eshram.gov.in) aims to create a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW), linked with Aadhaar.
This portal facilitates the registration and support of unorganised workers by providing them with a Universal Account Number (UAN) on a self-declaration basis.
Currently, 12 schemes from various Central Ministries are integrated with the e-Shram Portal, which is accessible in 22 Indian languages.
The e-Shram portal has been linked with the National Career Service (NCS) Portal. Unorganised workers can register on the NCS using their Universal Account Number (UAN) and search for appropriate job opportunities. A link has also been provided for workers registered on the e-Shram portal to easily register on the NCS.
The e-Shram scheme integrates with the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM), a pension initiative for unorganised workers aged between 18-40 years. This scheme offers a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 after reaching the age of 60 years. Any unorganised worker can enroll in the PM-SYM using their UAN. The government contributes 50 percent of the scheme's costs, while the remaining amount is contributed by the worker.
Additionally, the e-Shram portal has provisions to collect family details of migrant workers.
It also allows for sharing the data of construction workers with states and Union Territories to facilitate their registration in respective Buildings and Other Construction Workers (BoCW) boards.
To enhance skills and apprenticeship opportunities for unorganised workers, the e-Shram portal has been integrated with the Skill India Digital portal of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as mentioned by the minister.
The e-Shram portal is also integrated with the myScheme portal, a National Platform designed to provide a one-stop search and discovery of government schemes. It offers an innovative, technology-based solution to find scheme information based on citizen eligibility.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment introduced the e-Shram as a One-Stop-Solution on October 21, 2024, consolidating various government social welfare schemes into a single portal. This allows unorganised workers registered on e-Shram to access social security schemes and view the benefits they have availed so far.
To date, 12 schemes from various Central ministries have been integrated with the e-Shram, including the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Prime Minister Street Vendors AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), PM Awas Yojana- Urban (PMAY-U), PM Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
