  • 6G will enhance connectivity in sectors like healthcare and education.

New Delhi, May 14 (NationPress) The government has highlighted the revolutionary capabilities of 6G technology, stating it is ‘100 times more powerful’ than its predecessor, 5G.

During an interaction with IANS at the ‘Bharat 6G 2025 International Conference and Exhibition’, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, elaborated on the tremendous potential of 6G, promising significantly faster speeds, reduced latency, and a transformative shift in connectivity.

He acknowledged the obstacles encountered by 5G, such as high data consumption and limited spectrum availability, but reassured that these challenges are typical of technological evolution.

“5G has achieved remarkable success, but 6G will introduce a vastly different network, 100 times more powerful, with latency dropping to sub-milliseconds,” he stated in his conversation with IANS.

The minister emphasized that 6G will serve as a game-changer, integrating AI technologies that will transform various industries and day-to-day life.

He pointed out that while early adoption of 5G applications, like providing Wi-Fi access in every village, has begun, the transition to 6G will represent a monumental advancement.

“The shift from 4G to 5G was significant, but the jump to 6G will be entirely transformative,” Dr. Pemmasani noted.

While recognizing that 6G might initially appeal to early adopters, he expressed confidence that the technology will eventually gain mainstream acceptance, leading to a plethora of innovative applications.

The ‘Bharat 6G 2025’ conference forms part of India’s strategy to not just adopt but also spearhead global 6G technology development.

The minister reiterated the government’s vision, proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2023, to position India as a global leader in 6G by 2030.

This vision includes collaborations with nations like Japan, Singapore, and Finland, focusing on AI, terahertz communication, and intelligent networks.

He highlighted that 6G will not only expand technological horizons but also propel social and economic advancements across sectors such as healthcare, education, and agriculture.

He reaffirmed India’s dedication to being a pivotal player in shaping global 6G standards, fostering innovation, and facilitating digital transformation.

Point of View

I believe that the government's ambitious vision for 6G technology is a significant step towards establishing India as a leader in global tech innovation. While challenges remain, the commitment to fostering partnerships and driving digital transformation reflects a forward-thinking approach that could yield substantial benefits for various sectors.
