Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Q2 FY27 profit falls 28.6% to ₹221 crore
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, reported a net profit of ₹221 crore for the quarter ended September 2026 (Q2 FY27), a quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) decline of 28.6 per cent from Q1 FY27. The earnings dip came despite a sequential uptick in revenue, as a sharp fall in other income and rising employee costs squeezed the bottom line.
Revenue and Margin Picture
Revenue from operations rose 4.5 per cent sequentially to ₹483.81 crore, according to the company's stock exchange filing. Operating profit registered modest growth of 4 per cent, while the operating profit margin was broadly stable at 55.4 per cent, compared with 55.6 per cent in the June quarter.
The key drag on net profit was a near 74 per cent QoQ decline in other income, which significantly eroded the gains from revenue growth. Employee expenses also increased 8.5 per cent sequentially, adding further pressure on margins.
AUM Growth Lags Industry
The company's Quarterly Average Assets Under Management (QAAUM) expanded 3.3 per cent sequentially to ₹4.42 lakh crore. However, this growth fell short of the broader mutual fund industry's 5 per cent expansion over the same period, underscoring the ongoing competitive pressure the fund house faces.
Notably, Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC continued to lose ground in the mutual fund market. Its overall market share declined by 10 basis points QoQ to 5.7 per cent at the end of September. Equity market share slipped by a further 5 basis points to 3.9 per cent, even as equity AUM grew 5.3 per cent during the quarter. Equity assets accounted for 47.4 per cent of total mutual fund assets, up 90 basis points from the previous quarter.
SIP Registrations Offer a Silver Lining
A bright spot in an otherwise mixed quarter was strong growth in Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) registrations. New SIP sign-ups surged to 7.05 lakh from 5.47 lakh in the preceding quarter — a sequential jump of nearly 29 per cent — signalling healthy retail participation in equity markets. However, SIP contribution levels remained below the highs recorded in the fourth quarter of FY26, indicating that volumes are recovering but have not yet peaked again.
Stock Reaction
Shares of Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC fell as much as 7 per cent intraday following the earnings announcement before recovering a portion of those losses. The stock was last trading 1.6 per cent lower at ₹943.4 per share. The volatile session reflects investor ambivalence — acknowledging the profit miss while factoring in the resilient revenue trajectory and improving SIP momentum.
With market share erosion continuing and the industry expanding faster, the fund house's next quarters will be closely watched for signs of a competitive turnaround.
