New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) India's healthcare sector is on the verge of a transformation, with a significant rise in the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology-driven solutions, as per a recent report.

The report from Deloitte India indicates that AI adoption within the healthcare field has soared to over 40%, outpacing industries like FMCG (approximately 30%) and manufacturing (around 25%).

This surge is attributed to government-supported initiatives such as the IndiaAI Mission and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, which are laying the groundwork for a digitally empowered healthcare environment.

“India's digital healthcare ecosystem is swiftly evolving, with AI-powered diagnostics, innovative MedTech solutions, and digital health records revolutionizing patient care,” stated Joydeep Ghosh, Life Sciences and Health Care Industry Leader, Partner at Deloitte India.

Ghosh emphasized that the exports of surgical consumables and disposables from India hit $1.6 billion in FY 2022–23, highlighting the country's growing capabilities and footprint in the global healthcare landscape.

The report further highlighted the government's strategic efforts such as the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, a surge in private sector investments, and the incorporation of various technological advancements.

Innovative projects like mobile cancer detection units in Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, along with AI-driven diagnostic laboratories in Himachal Pradesh, are enhancing early disease detection and making advanced diagnostics more cost-effective. India's healthcare framework is set to significantly impact the health of over a billion individuals, drive economic progress, and deliver high-quality, affordable care to previously underserved areas, the report noted.

However, despite these advancements, the uptake of AI in healthcare is lagging behind that of banking and financial services, as the report cites challenges regarding data security, regulatory inconsistencies, and limited digital infrastructure in rural regions.

Additionally, the lack of professionals skilled in AI complicates the seamless integration of these technologies into clinical practices.

To harness the full potential of AI in healthcare, “the sector must tackle issues such as regulatory cohesion, workforce training, and infrastructure challenges. With strategic investments and focused policy enhancements, India can emerge as a global frontrunner in AI-driven healthcare, improving patient outcomes and accessibility,” concluded Ghosh.
